Quoting a recent study by Ms Audrey McElory, Assistant Professor of Poultry Sciences at Virginia Tech, the Spices Board sources here said adding capsaicin — a natural substance present in pepper that produces a burning sensation in the mouth — to the diet of neonatal broiler chicks appeared to increase their resistance to salmonella.
